Deputy principal, curriculum, teaching and learning

Our college is a co-educational, multicultural state secondary school in central/east Auckland. We serve a diverse urban environment covering a wide range of ethnic, social and economic situations.

Due to the retirement of our long-serving deputy principal, we are looking for a visionary and collaborative leader to join our senior leadership team. Our school values of māia|courage, manaakitanga|care and manawa reka|curiosity underpin our teaching and learning, and your ability to lead based on these values as well as culturally sustaining and restorative practices is an expectation.

We are seeking a dedicated education professional with a reputation for engaging, inspiring, challenging and empowering both students and staff.  You will have the ability to lead future-focused pedagogy; be committed to professional learning and teacher inquiry; collaborative; optimistic; innovative and organised.

In particular this role has responsibility for:

  • Ensuring high-quality teaching and learning that supports meaningful learning and student agency
  • Future-focused and student learning centred curriculum development
  • Staff professional learning, development and welfare
  • Middle leadership development
  • Pastoral care and induction of Y9 learners, in collaboration with cohort dean
  • Appraisal, evaluation, and self-review.

Other aspects of the role will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

We offer an energetic and supportive team, opportunities for personal and professional development, and a caring and inclusive teaching and learning environment. As a community we are always looking towards ongoing improvement, so a positive attitude to learning and change is essential. Data analysis that supports meaningful evaluation would also be an advantage.

The position will commence for the 2020 school year.
