Level 2 Outdoor Education Kayaking Trip

On Thursday 4th April the Level 2 Outdoor Education class set out from Bucklands Beach for their three-day kayaking trip. The conditions were amazing for a full day (16km) of kayaking. We headed out to Rangitoto, kayaked along the coast and across to Motutapu where we stopped for lunch. From there, it was a hop across to Motuihe where we were camping for the two nights. On Friday we kayaked around Motuihe and across to eat our lunch at Waiheke, stopping on the way to raft up and have a go at swapping kayaks while on the water. On our second night camping, we walked through the bush at dusk hoping to see a tuatara. Motuihe is a sanctuary for native animals and there are no predators on the island. We didn’t manage to see a tuatara but we did hear kiwi late at night in the bush near our tents. On our final day, we paddled across to Motukorea (Browns Island) and walked to the top for some amazing views of the Hauraki Gulf. It was a short(ish) paddle across to Bucklands Beach and back to school.
A huge thank you to Miss Benjamin for guiding us on our trip and teaching us everything we needed to know for our trip.
